Living in today’s world, we receive a constant stream of messages telling us who we are, who we should be and why we are missing the mark. There is so much noise around us, it is often hard to have space or time to think or feel.
When was the last time you could actually focus on yourself and your needs? Maybe you have a specific, current, situation that you want to process. Or, maybe you would like to tackle parts of yourself that keep popping up but you aren’t sure what you think of them, let alone what to do with them. No matter what is going on, my goal is to help you meet your goals.
I believe in the value of creating safe spaces to talk and explore ourselves. I also believe to be effective as your therapist, I need to be open and genuine with you so you can be open and genuine with me. So, whatever you need to talk about, it is ok. And, if you need to cry that is also ok. Or, If you want to laugh, I am all in. But be warned, I have been told my laugh sounds like a “cackle”.
In couples sessions, I see you. I see BOTH of you. Relationships are complex. Is it really the annoyingly loud way your partner chews that bothers you or the fact they just don’t seem to get you anymore? Having the same arguments over and over and responding to each other the same way can be disheartening. I get it, and I can help you move out of those old patterns and respond to each other in new more effective ways. I work from an Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) approach. That means I work to discover the patterns that are leading to your disconnection so we can understand them. And, once we understand your patterns in a deeper way, we can change your responses to one another. Issues that often bring couples to therapy include infidelity, communication issues and sexual problems. I am happy to talk with you and your partner about any problems you may be having.
Life has not been a straightforward path for me. Along the way, I have completed a BS in Plant Science (University of Missouri) and a MS in Sociology (University of Missouri). I also lived in Bolivia for six months. My MS in Clinical Counseling (Central Methodist University) is my most rewarding degree so far. I deeply value new experiences and relationships. Therefore, I am always looking for new perspectives and to continue to learn about myself, my field and my clients as I work as a therapist. Life can be an evolving, transforming experience…if we want it to be.
