IMF Counseling is excited to offer assessment services to our community as part of our continuum of care. Having an assessment completed by a licensed psychologist can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, allows your care providers to organize a comprehensive and holistic treatment plan, and can validate your lived experience in a way that builds confidence and is empowering.

Why an assessment?

We started offering assessments for the reasons above and to also better serve our clients and community with a resource that is difficult to find in our area. Understanding more of what is going on in your internal and external world can help you find the resources you need, get the therapy you want, and have more compassion for yourself. Assessments dig into the areas of our brain that may be over or under functioning. These are often parts we can’t just “talk away” on our own. Our goal in providing assessments is to help you feel relief and hope, even for your imperfections. Even if the assessment you receive leads to a diagnosis, the approach we take is non-pathologizing and respectful of your autonomy.

How do I know I might need or want an assessment?

  • It is suggested to you by a teacher, attorney, physician, or even someone close to you
  • Something is not working in your life
  • You suspect or wonder if you have particular diagnosis and want to understand more about that

What kinds of assessments are offered at IMF?

We offer assessments to

  • Better understand personality
  • Evaluate clinical symptoms
  • Diagnose ADHD
  • Diagnose learning disabilities
  • Assess academic and cognitive functioning
  • Evaluate memory function
  • Evaluate the presence, severity or impact of a SUD
  • Look at functional impairment

Is an assessment just a test?

Assessment is a broad term that encompasses different tools to help understand and dig deeper into the connection between our brains and our bodies. Your assessment will most likely begin with a Bio-Psycho-Social interview. We may then gather collateral information from other folks in your life such as your physician, parent, teacher, partner, attorney, or another mental health provider. You may complete a screening survey to help determine if further assessment is appropriate, such as:

  • ADHD Self Report Survey
  • PHQ-9
  • GAD-7
  • PCL
  • DASS 42
  • ACES

Assessment tools we may utilize to better understand what is going on for you include:

  • Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory – IV (MCMI)
  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)
  • Adult Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory 4 (SASSI)
  • Diagnostic Interview for Adult ADHD (DIVA 5)
  • Delis-Kaplan Executive Functioning System (D-KEFS)
  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-5)
  • Weschler Memory Scale (WMS-5)
  • Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS)
  • Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT-5)
  • Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-4)
  • Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Dyslexia Index

When the interviews and inventories are completed, a formal report will be written and given to you in a follow-up appointment. At that time, we will help you understand the report and give you ample time to ask questions and talk about concerns resulting from your assessment.
