Below is a short description of The Intensive offerings.

Each participant’s treatment plan will include some or all of the services listed.

Each service will be discussed in detail during the evaluation and assessment phase of The Intensive. Your time in The Intensive is tailored to you, so we maintain a flexible schedule and treatment goals throughout the entire process.

Upon first contact, an evaluation begins by our program’s clinical team.

We will work with you to decide where to begin and if you are a good fit for the program. The start of the evaluation process often looks like a short phone call, Zoom meeting, or in-person consultation. We will help you determine where on the continuum of care is a good place for you to start. IMF Counseling provides services in the first three levels.

Whether you begin with a biweekly group support meeting or start with The Intensive program in its entirety, you will interact with the IMF staff and its affiliates all along the way. There’s no right way to do this, and you’ll never have to do it alone.

The assessment phase of The Intensive is a continuation of the Evaluation and happens in various ways throughout your time in the program.

At the onset, you may be asked to complete a symptom checklist, a more standardized mental health questionnaire, and a drug screen. In order to provide the best care and to give you an idea of how you’re meeting your treatment goals, we will use different measures to assess progress and areas of growth. Your individual therapist will discuss assessment methods and instructions with you to ensure you understand and are comfortable with your treatment plan.

Most Intensive participants will meet with their therapist once per week for individual counseling.

Topics discussed may include family history, daily routines, and things that happen within the program that you would like to dive deeper into. Your individual therapist also acts as your Clinical Team Leader and liaison between other therapists and outside providers. If you and your counselor decide more one-on-one therapy would be beneficial, additional time will be created in your schedule for that dedicated work.

Group therapy is an integral part of The Intensive.

We believe change happens in the context of relationships, and learning to relate to and with others is the main focus of our program. Some of the groups you will participate in include relapse prevention strategies, emotion regulation, mindfulness and stress reduction, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Additional groups such as trauma growth, boundary development, 12-step support, and recovery from religious trauma may also be offered on a rotating basis.

At some point in therapy, we all say goodbye to each other.

We say goodbye to our counselor, our fellow group members, and our treatment team. But your recovery doesn’t end there. In fact, developing new habits, making new friends, even starting a new career is perhaps the most exciting part of therapy! We want to empower you to develop a support network and community you can lean on in times of celebration and times of struggle. One of our goals in The Intensive is to introduce you to community programs, service opportunities, and helpful folks who will enhance your life for years to come.

While our finances, our job, and our relationships are affected by substance use and behavioral challenges, our bodies often take the first hit.

Each day spent in The Intensive will provide you a chance to reconnect with and take care of your body in different ways: we will spend time providing nutritional education, gentle movement, sleep hygiene techniques, and meditation exercises in a comfortable and non-threatening environment.

While we see benefits to drug screening, there are also consequences, of which we are cognizant.

We strive to handle drug testing carefully and respectfully. Drug testing is never used in a punitive manner. Instead, drug testing gives us the necessary information to develop an accurate assessment of your needs, develop an effective treatment plan, and measure outcomes. Sometimes, an initial drug screen is required as part of the Evaluation and Assessment phase of therapy. Whether or not ongoing drug testing will be part of your treatment will be determined by you and your Clinical Team. Drug testing during The Intensive happens offsite at a referred location and the client is responsible for the additional cost.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is drug and alcohol treatment provided and administered by a medical provider.

Your Clinical Team will discuss with you if an evaluation for this service might be helpful. Medications such as Suboxone, Naltrexone, Vivitrol, and Methadone help curb cravings and prevent overdose from opioids, alcohol and other addictive substances. At IMF Counseling we affirm the role these medications have in your recovery and recognise the importance of MAT.  At this time, all MAT occurs offsite at a referred location. Costs incurred are the responsibility of the client.

Along the continuum of care, there are step downs and step ups which are determined by both you and the recommendations of your treatment team.

Moves on the continuum are often based on treatment progress, lifestyle changes, and scheduling changes. The Intensive therapists are interested in developing a relationship with you that will see you through all phases of treatment. We don’t work from “the beginning to the end,” rather, we ask, “Where would you like to go?” Continued care may look like weekly individual counseling for some and for others, may look like inpatient, residential treatment. Somewhere in the middle, you may find yourself attending our biweekly support group for a few months as you step back into your daily routine prior to beginning The Intensive. There is no right way.

We have developed relationships with Treatment Placement Specialists in our area who work alongside us to help you find additional and targeted therapy services.

We encourage you to utilize these specialists at any point in time, as they are well-versed in treatment offerings, insurance benefits and other logistical details related to levels of care.

Length of the Intensive

We do not have a predetermined length of time for your treatment.

However, we do ask that you make an initial two week commitment to complete an assessment and develop a plan.

We do not anticipate people will attend the program for more than three months. However, we recognize that each person’s unique needs will determine the length of time that The Intensive will be helpful for them.
