Something New

For 20+ years, IMF Counseling has been providing individual, couple’s, family, and group therapy with an emphasis on offering a welcoming, non-judgmental environment for you to explore yourself. Maybe you want to start a new career, improve your friendships, mend a marriage, or heal from an emotional wound that feels “stuck” inside. We have been and will always be here for you in those ways.

Something new is coming, too! We are excited to offer The Intensive, a program within our private practice, to help you and/or your loved ones work through challenges involving substance use and/or compulsive behaviors. The Intensive is designed as an Intensive Outpatient Program, where participants will be onsite for a few hours per day, several days per week, according to their individualized treatment plan.

If you or someone you know have been wondering if once-weekly individual counseling or 24-hour care in a residential facility for substance use treatment would be more beneficial, IMF Counseling has another option for you/them. We call this space on the treatment continuum the “gray area.” There are a lot of options from which to choose and each of them come with their own sort of complexities:

  • Do I stick to my weekly, individual therapy?
  • Do I go to a hospital?
  • Wait…do I have to quit my job?
  • Maybe I’m past the point of no return.
  • My spouse wants me to go to rehab, but I don’t want or need to.

At the end of this barrage of internal questioning is often the resignation of, “I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and hope it gets better.” You can find us in that place.

The Intensive is designed to be a landing pad in the gray space of treatment: more intense and more frequent than once-a-week therapy, yet part-time-enough to retain a lot of your daily routine. It is a therapy program designed to provide 9 hours per week of individual and group therapy in order to help you meet your goals of reducing or stopping the use of drugs, alcohol, and/or compulsive behaviors. And it’s in Columbia, Missouri, right around the corner.

We know you and your loved ones will have a lot of questions regarding this sort of program, and we’re ready to walk alongside you as you explore this opportunity in 2023. The treatment provided during The Intensive is evidence-based and led by competent, experienced, licensed professionals. The small group environment is conducive to a safe, confidential, and shared space in which you will learn to use new tools to reach your goals, whatever they may be.

The two main questions we suspect are on your mind today may include, “Do I have to commit to sobriety/abstinence to attend?” and “How much does it cost?” Here are the short answers to those questions.

Do I have to commit to sobriety/abstinence to attend?

The approach of The Intensive is modeled after a set of public policies and procedures called Harm Reduction. Complete abstinence from substances and behaviors may not be your goal. You may not even know what your goal is, rather, that there are some hindrances getting in the way of you living the life you want to live. The Intensive is a place to really study yourself and find out what you want your practice and routine around substances looks like; it may be moderating drinking and drug use, it may be sobriety, it may be a mixture of both. There is room for you to make and live out these decisions in The Intensive.

How much does it cost?

We believe in transparency, which includes financial transparency, at IMF Counseling. The Intensive is a private-pay program that costs $900/week. We will ask for a 2-week commitment for you to begin, which will give us ample time to design a unique treatment plan that fits for you, your family, and your lifestyle. You may attend for up to 90 days. While we do not file with your insurance company, we encourage you to reach out to them to find out if you qualify for Out-of-Network benefits. Our team can help provide you with more details when it comes to talking with your insurance provider.

You will be hearing a lot more about The Intensive in the near future. We know the new year brings with it a sense of reflection and forward-thinking and want you to know that we care about your continued growth and development.
